Hello Metal fans everywhere,

My name is Derek Boyer, Australia”s Strongest Man 15 years undefeated in Australia! I”m now retired from strongman competition having competed also for 15 years at World Strongest Man competition where at my best I was a finalist. After finishing at W.S.M I went on to win the Masters World Strongest man competition in Belfast 2012 and I have achieved a great number of Guinness World Records that are posted on my website www.derekboyer.com

My entire life has been dedicated to developing my true potential of strength and power. At 44 years of age I believe I am at the peak of my strength and powers to lift the heaviest weights I have ever lifted. It has been proven many times through history that men peak into their 40’s. I saw recently again on youtube Dr Fred Hatfield at 45 years old squatting 1,000lbs + wearing very little.

I have decided to make a comeback to powerlifting and give myself a chance to put one cycle after another together to put some big numbers up. After having a look at the technology and equipment available I have decided to use what I believe is the best resource available in the world so I have gladly joined the Metal gang.

I have competed successfully Raw in powerlifting in the past for fun totalling 895kg as a one off competition for Strongman training. Now it’s different! I”ll be competing exclusively as a powerlifter and I have dropped body fat and weight to compete in the 125kg division. After losing the weight my strength is growing and so to is my passion to lift big.

The reason I’m choosing to wear Metal powerlifting gear is simple! I have a number of sponsored endorsements that I need to fulfil throughout the year which is my bread and butter so I cannot afford to get injured and the reason I will compete using Metal powerlifting Gear. When you are my age and lifting the weights I lift raw the risk of injury is always great so that is why I will use gear.

Of course it will mean I will be able to lift more but I will be safer and lifting against others who will also be wearing gear. I had to consider out of Inzer, Titan and Metal and to me there is no comparison. I believe Metal make the best gear in the world and the reason I have chosen them.

I will post my training account throughout the year here on this blog and give you some expert insights into my secret training strategies, special exercises and Nutrition and supplement recommendations to grow stronger. I will also trial different equipment and show you the best way to get more out of your metal equipment for bigger totals.

We live in a remarkable age of technology. You cannot just be strong anymore! You must be strong, brave, smart and crafty and know how to use all your intellect and resources around you to create the best package.
The world champions now are the ones who put up the best overall package!

Forever strong, Derek Boyer

Managing Weight for competition!

I learnt a very good lesson recently on the value of weight control before competition. I had been training heavy with the 3 Power-lifts when I was invited by the Australian Sumo Association to Fly to New Zealand to compete as a Middle Weight. My normal weight is 125kg for Power Lifting and Middle Weight Read More »

My Chiropractor makes me stronger

I’ll be turning 45 years old soon and let me tell you I am not jumping out of bed in the mornings as I once did when I was 20 something. It is a well known fact that as we get older recovery slows down and becomes an incredibly important concern, especially if you happen Read More »

Dead Lifting is the Ultimate Strength Test

Started training hard for powerlifting competition. Using just a belt and raps on wide stance squats in the monolift. I”m using bands as well Which I believe is important in getting ready to using the double ply suit. The reason for this is that the double ply will give me lots of stoping power down Read More »

Old School Squat lockout holds

trim.BDC9C4E1-67F3-4CEE-8C68-FFB3E3F31830 I believe to become stronger you must be able to build great pressure in the body.  When I see the strongest men lift they always seem more rigid and stable under the bar and generate great pressure and force to move the bar.  You don’t see them shaking and unsteady. I see a lot Read More »
