Managing Weight for competition!
I learnt a very good lesson recently on the value of weight control before competition. I had been training heavy with the 3 Power-lifts when I was invited by the Australian Sumo Association to Fly to New Zealand to compete as a Middle Weight. My normal weight is 125kg for Power Lifting and Middle Weight for Sumo Is between 85kg and 115kg. So I had to lose over 10kg in 20 days before the comp.I officially weighed in at 114.8kg the day before the competition and destroyed the competition winning every fight. Most middle weight competitors weighed around 90kg to 105kg. On competition day Just before the fights I weighed myself to unofficially weigh 124kg. A massive advantage!
I realised that I had not taken advantage of losing weight before powerlifting competition to weigh in as light as possible to register a larger Co efficient. Then blow back up quickly to compete at my normal weight.
If you see me now, weigh in at officially 124kg, you can bet on the comp day, a day later I”m going to be 130kg +.
Looking forward to training heavy again and looking for big numbers in the power lifts later this year.
