Meet Prep with Hip Pain

I’m excited that my next meet is coming up in two weeks.  We have been working hard for the last 12 weeks preparing for this meet.  But about 4 weeks ago my hip started really hurting.  I was told it was a strained hip flexor.  My coach and my dad were even thinking about pulling me from the meet, but I said NO.  The only time it really hurt was when I squatted.  I told them I would be fine.  Everyone said we would keep an eye on it and I would have to do some things at home to help it get better.  I was told no squats for three weeks.  I was still able to work around it on squat night (lots of leg press and belt squats, yuk).  At home, I had to get it massaged and ice it every day and night.  The massages really hurt and the ice was really cold.  During this time my bench was getting a lot better and my deadlift was also. I just wasn’t allowed to squat.

Well this week was the first time I got to try to squat.  And it did not hurt, yay.  I am so glad that I would not let them pull me from the meet.  I may not hit my goals on the squat for this meet but I will improve on all my lifts.  I just got to do better at hitting depth on my squat.

I will see everyone in Orlando for the Southern States on October 17 and I will be lifting.
