GPC European Championships 2015

Eastbourne, United Kingdom.

Well the week started out pretty good, I weighed in at 81.3kg/178lbs. After weigh ins I ate some food and hydrated as best as I could, then did a little warmup/shakeout.

I squatted the bar and 55kgs, just to feel the movement. I messed around with the placement of my brand new METAL belt, which I love. Bench; I warmed up my triceps with ssome close grip with 4okg, then just worked up to 60kg with competition grip. Deadlifts felt alright, ironically enough, sumo stance felt better than conventional which was super weird!

Competition day: 170/97,5/205 –Full Power Raw J 82,5

I was in the second session of the day. I opened on squat with 170kg and unfortunately thats the only attempt I got. I went for 182,5kg on my second and got it, but was called for depth 2-1 :/. On bench, I was incredibly unhappy. Due to some unfortunate happenings, I missed my second attempt of 97,5kgs which should never have happened. I was most confident in my bench this competition and I was ready to hit 3 digits in kilos (100kg) and theres just no excuse. obviously on my 3rd I came back and got it, but I can assure you I have never been more mad at a competition, and thats saying a lot compared to last years WPC Europeans :D. The deadlift was horrible. Warm ups felt fine, I worked to 185kg and it was easy. My opener of 205kg felt incredibly hard. Of course, I missed my next attempts at 215kg, my lower back felt like it was going to snap. That was the first time in my life that my deadlift felt weak. I guess theres a first time for everything.

Nevertheless, I did PR in the bench, so there was SOME improvement. Granted, I didn’t actually prep for this competition. NOW its time to get stronger and heal my aches and pains!

A huge Thank you goes out to the BEST sponsors in the world, Ano & Minna! Also, England’s GPC committee for putting on such a well organized event! I enjoyed meeting so many new people and gaining so much more support while being able to offer it to other teams as well. It was a great experience 🙂
